Prof. Dr. Paritosh Kumar Chowdhury is one of the most prominent and highly respected medical figures in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. With an illustrious career spanning over 35 years in active clinical practice, research, and medical education, Dr. Chowdhury has established himself as a frontline specialist in respiratory medicine, chest diseases, asthma, and general cardiology. His professional journey in the public healthcare sector began in 1991 after clearing the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Health cadre examinations, following his graduation with an MBBS degree. Recognising the immense burden of respiratory illnesses and cardiac complications in the industrial belts and coastal areas around the Khulna Division, he pursued specialised postgraduate studies, earning a Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD) along with advanced Postgraduate Training (PGT) in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
Throughout his academic career, Dr Chowdhury has played a transformative role in shaping medical education in Khulna. He served with distinction as the professor and head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Khulna Medical College & Hospital (KMCH). In this leadership role, he mentored generations of young physicians, spearheaded clinical research on regional pulmonary trends, and oversaw the expansion of complex respiratory intensive care protocols. In addition to his academic contributions at KMCH, he has extended his high-level clinical services to the Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital as a senior consultant, helping manage critical cardiopulmonary cases that require interdisciplinary attention. His dual training in cardiology and chest medicine gives him a unique diagnostic edge, allowing him to seamlessly treat patients whose respiratory distress is interconnected with underlying cardiovascular or rheumatic heart conditions.
In his private practice at A. Samad Memorial Hospital, located centrally at Royal Mor in Khulna, Dr Chowdhury remains deeply committed to accessible, patient-centric healthcare. His clinical focus encompasses a wide spectrum of disorders, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe refractory asthma, pulmonary hypertension, tuberculosis eradication, and interstitial lung diseases. Known for his compassionate demeanour and highly analytical approach to complex diagnostics, he integrates the latest global respiratory guidelines with practical, lifestyle-oriented management plans tailored to the local environment. Even after retiring from full-time public administration, he continues to actively participate in national medical seminars, updates regional asthma care strategies, and remains a trusted first-choice consultant for families across the Khulna Division seeking definitive solutions for chronic thoracic and heart ailments.
